LiveJournal Major Notes: Notes, Tweaks, Bug Kills, LJ_Cares!
Notes augmented
We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!
Product tweaks and bug kill
- In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
- If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
- The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
- If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
- If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
- Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)
New FCK fixes rich text editor!
- We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
- When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
- RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
- An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
- The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers
LiveJournal Cares
We’re pleased to introduce you to lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

Network Maintenance: Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 04:00-06:00 UTC/GMT EDIT@08:16 UTC/GMT. Wow. That was ugly. I expected it to go for 30 minutes and have maybe 1 minute of broken connectivity. Instead it lasted over 4 hours and we had 10 minutes of downtime directly related to the load balancer upgrades and then another 5-10 minutes of downtime when our primary Pingback database server crashed and the secondary couldn't take over; which could have been indirectly caused by the network upgrade missing a self-VIP. Anyways, we're up, we're working, the load balancers are barely breaking a sweat right now and I need some food and a shot of whiskey. I don't even *like* whiskey!! Thanks mhwest and dnewhall for helping out! --- On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice. Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials. We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait! As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work. |

tl;dr I find a Giro/ZX pic I've been looking for for a long time now.
I love my past self. Okay, so I've been sitting here for the past half hour or so trying to find a good image for a new icon idea. I'm getting frustrated by this point because I had it, and then I forgot where it was. So I'm scanning through other pictures from the same time and.. apparently the me from 2007 decides to throw a curveball. I found this. I have been looking for that image for a YEAR now, and I'd originally thought it lost. I can't believe that I'd saved it after all. It's that picture that I talk about in this one, by the way. And when Christmas comes around at DDD Giro's going to do the same thing he did last year and deliver gifts to his friends, I'm so using that image up there for an icon. Ah, I'm so happy I found it~ <333 On my own computer to boot. XD Current Mood: happy |

[Drabble]
This is a drabble for an RP world with my friends, particularly Mew as one of her characters appears alongside one of mine. I guess you could call it a Megaman fic; it's based off a log we were doing last night. Basically all you need to know for this is that the Classic universe exists as a parallel world that they maintain frequent contact with, and that Dr. Light's latest creation X is visiting for a time to gain experience from the wide range of fighters and their values that live here. Heck, you don't even need much Megaman knowledge at all; so long as you get the whole robot thing, that should be enough. XD Although I may have lied a little about the Laws of Robotics thing, but oh well. Keep in mind it is a drabble though, and one I wrote at 4 AM at that. So yeah, I'm pretty much procrastinating on NaNo. Don't judge me XDXD EDIT: Now without HTML fail! ( There's something odd about the new visitor... ) |

Why I Don't Like Marilyn Manson Anymore
...Actually, all I'd really have to do here is post that horrible new video of his (the song is something about...the end of the world... or something.) I really just don't even want to look at it again though. I don't really care that much that he's no longer cool, but I care a tiny bit more than I would otherwise because I used to be a super ultra mega Manson fan, and being let down by someone you were super into is rather unfortunate. Although in the case of Manson, it's not unexpected I guess. I think his message is entirely spent. I liked him (and still like some of his older stuff) because it was such a fuck you to a lot of the elements of society that I personally have felt alienated by. And when you're an angsty gothic 15-year-old, it feels pretty good to have someone on your side. Even if he were still making music that was really geared toward making a statement about the world (as opposed to wangsting about his personal life in entirely uninteresting and unoriginal ways) those messages, now, are everywhere, and no longer as shocking to people. Thus his appeal kind of goes down the shitter. He is not a good musician, nor is he someone I want to watch for six minutes while he stares through pounds of makeup at a camera, singing about how bad his relationships are and his drug-related issues and how being a big rock star sucks cry cry cry. I'm sure he's got problems, but who the fuck cares? If he's not actively being a pain in the ass of the people I don't/didn't like and it's not ten years ago, then he's not doing what he does best and therefore needs to gtfo my screen before I punch him in the contact lens. I FEEL ACCOMPLISHED
Okay so yes this is an LJ RP ad. But it's for my RP, which I've recently gone and revamped. I'm just going to stick the profile summary in here so I don't kill any layouts with the actual code; the profile itself has all the info you could ever need. People on my f-list who RP around LJ, please at least check it out? Oh! And for those that remember the last time I pumped Psychosocial, it's different now. I've redone the story and given the whole thing an overhaul, so if you looked before and decided against it, I think it might deserve a second glance? XD So uhm, yeah. Have fun. Psychosocial 1. refers to mental health and social conditions, or factors that affect psychological or social well-being 2. having both psychological and social aspectsIt all started in an unknown year, in a city tucked far away. There scientists toiled with things unheard of, taking outlandish theories that even crazy people with tinfoil hats threw aside, trying to make them real. Alternate universes. The ability to not only travel time, but manipulate it and warp it. The belief that if someone imagined it, it would come into being on another plane. Crazy, right? Until each and every one of those was proven right. Turns out, there is something out there. Hundreds, thousands, MILLIONS of other universes, countless alternate realities that even the scientists hadn't dared to dream of. Their findings were amazing, and they hoped to turn the scientific community on its head. Except... they didn't. They were laughed at, and their ideas and experiments were thrown away. However no good scientist lets the teasing of their peers get them down, and this fringe group was no exception. This is where you come in. Your day may have started out innocently enough. Sitting down to check your e-mail you noticed a strange message in there. "I need your help." Spam, right? Wrong. This is an e-mail from one of the scientists, who have found out some way to contact your world, to contact you. The message goes on to describe their problem and what you have to do. It's no big deal really, just make occasional posts to a journal community that's already been set up for the purpose. There's nowhere to go and no dangers to face. In fact, they even agree to compensate you for your time and patience. Maybe you waffle back and forth on the decision for a while, maybe you jump right in, or maybe you just get tired of the constant flood of e-mails about it. Either way you join the community, and make your first post. Simple, right? Maybe not as simple as it seems. Welcome to the experiment. psychosocial_rp Current Mood: satisfied |

*stares, pours a cup of water, takes a sip, then does a spit take*
Okay, I know I was just about to go to bed, and I KNOW I've been updating a lot lately, especially with Megaman stuff. But then, it IS me. But I just had to put this in. Emphasis mine. "Rockman Megamix (ロックマンメガミックス, Rockman Megamix) is a Mega Man manga drawn by Hitoshi Ariga. Megamix vol. 1 will be released in the US as Mega Man Megamix by Udon Entertainment. It will be available sometime between January-February 2010, and is currently available for preorder on Amazon." Forgive me other MM people if I'm a little slow on the uptake, but I'm just now finding this out. And I have this to say: SDOPIHDGOPIUD <3 <3 <3 Oh please let the others follow. I've been searching for volume 2 for YEARS, and I'd adore having a copy of volume 3 in English. Okay yeah, dorkiness over. The caffeine I had earlier (what? I was cold, and we only had coffee not hot chocolate xD ) is wearing off and I'm tired. Current Mood: bouncy |

Aaaagh, something occurred to me earlier while I was playing Power Fighters, but now I don't remember what that was ><; Oh well. FINALLY beat Iceman in Battle and Chase though, but I don't think I'll ever get past Napalmman x__X The factory track kicks my ass. On an unrelated note, I don't think I'll put my NaNo stuff in my journal. If it requires the absorption of four years worth of backstory beforehand to the outside reader, it ain't worth it. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop writing the RP-verse guide.. thing.. I mentioned in an edit to my last entry, but it just won't be as a supplement to my NaNo fic. It's nice just to get out all that stuff about that particular world xD Current Mood: busy |

This is why I shouldn't be allowed to post beyond 3 AM.
I will never, ever stop loving the sound of Giro's "theme" Awake, especially the way it begins. When it starts playing in the ending of ZX, and you see just what's going on... Oh god, it's one of the few times I've ever cried for a video game. I've come close countless times. But I bawl without fail at the ending of Megaman ZX. "Tonight, in order to refresh my mind on a character's personality, I replayed the beginning of Megaman ZX, for the benefit of RP. And I don't know whether it's just the night I had (utterly infusing myself with this guy, I mean) or my personality, but when it got to... what happens to him, I found myself deeply affected. I've played ZX multiple times, have gone through this scenario many many times, but tonight... Tonight I wonder, "Is it okay to cry at a video game?"
But then, given how many people you hear about how they reacted to Aeris, or to countless other moments, I suppose the answer is "Yes"... And you know him for such a short time in the game, but his presence continues to permeate it, extending into the second one (or maybe that's just me). It may sound weird to mourn over someone you experience for such a short time.
And yet... Here I am, at 5-something in the morning, sap that I am, sitting here with my eyes wet and wishing I could materialize his inner voice for just a moment so I can give him a hug, and tell him "I'll remember"..."I went to go find that one just for the ending, but I forgot it was also the one where I mentioned I'd cried at it. Heh. I was listening to Awake when I did that entry, too... 2,077 words. A small start, but a solid one. Edit: I've started an RP guide to the universe I'm using for NaNoWriMo, for people to read so they can understand the novel if I ever post the WIP (because yes, the universe is THAT expansive; it has four years of play people). A few supplemental guides existed already for the purposes of the players' reference, but now I'm filling in the blanks for benefit of those not familiar with the world xD Current Mood: touchedCurrent Music: Awake [Giro's Theme] - Megaman ZX |

So, for the first time ever I'm attempting NaNoWriMo. So far I've got about 1345 words (which is pretty good if you ask me, since I only started an hour ago or so xDD ). Maybe I can actually do it. Wish me luck, guys! It took me FOREVER to think of a topic for my novel, though x__X I finally went with an off-LJ RP plotline that only a small handful of people would ever be interested in reading, or even get, but it's not like I'm writing with the public in mind XDEdit: Now with profile link and updated synopsis for my... thing. XD http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/579148Besides that, icon has it oh so right. Halloween at work yesterday was MURDER, and today was a shift that went on much too long on its own. I hate floor moves. I know, whine whine bitch bitch blahblahblah. You know how they say "put your nose to the grindstone"? Well I feel like the grindstone caught my hair, dragged me up into the machinery and turned me into CB!powder. Just add water; I make delightful biscuits. Seriously though, breaktime for me, and I'm happy for it. Ennnh. I've got comments on the love meme to get to and tags to do, and modly stuff to attempt to do at another RP, and things to write and a new RP journal to furnish, and to check what the hell you get from the Gaia event and... Blah. I'll get to it later tonight. Right now all I'm going to do is veg on the couch for a while. ...And Firefox does not recognize "veg" as a misspelled word. That's randomly amusing xDD Current Mood: apatheticCurrent Music: Safety Dance - Men Without Hats |
